FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition)

The varsity ‘Sport for the Mind’, FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of 25 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It’s as close to “real-world engineering” as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team.

The Game

This years game "STEAMWORKS" is a steampunk-themed game played by two Alliances of three robots each. Robots score points by shooting wiffle balls, also known as "fuel" into a boiler, which has the ability to have high and low goals. Robots can also gain additional points by collecting gears, where they will placed a on peg, and lifted up by human players on the field, making a gear train to spin rotors. At the end of the match, robots climb a rope to "board the airship".
