Who are We

  • Founded in 1999 as the first FIRST Robotics Competition team in California’s Aerospace Valley, Team 399 Eagle Robotics was built on the belief that FIRST is more than a competition — it is a catalyst for transformation. For over two decades, we have combined engineering excellence with leadership development, advocacy, and service, growing from a single robotics team into a sustainable network of programs that expand access to STEM across our area. We don’t just build robots — we build pathways.

Through mentorship of FLL and FTC teams, open-access training resources like PurplePrint and Robotics University, immersive youth programs, and community-wide outreach initiatives, we spread the FIRST mission, strengthen the robotics community, and inspire future innovators. Team 399 is more than a team — we are mentors, creators, and community builders committed to shaping the STEM future of the Aerospace Valley and beyond.

  • FIRST Robotics is an international youth robotics program that combines science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education with hands-on competition and teamwork. High school and younger students design, build, program, and test robots to complete game challenges set each season, while also developing skills in project management, outreach, and professionalism. Emphasizing Gracious Professionalism and collaboration, FIRST fosters mentorship between students and industry volunteers, preparing participants for college and careers in engineering and technology.

  • A clear team structure is essential for a large robotics team. It defines roles, improves communication, and boosts productivity so we can reach our goals efficiently.

Mentors and Advisors: Our mentors and advisors volunteer their time and expertise to guide and inspire students. They provide technical knowledge, leadership, and support that help members develop skills and tackle challenges. We rely on their commitment and experience.

Student Administration Managers: Manager, Logistics Manager, and Administrative Assistant oversee the team and events. The Manager coordinates subteams, runs meetings, and handles communications. The Logistics Manager manages fundraisers, budgeting, and spirit packs. The Administrative Assistant handles required paperwork and event logistics. These students are selected by mentors and the team for their dedication and responsibility.

Subteam Leaders: Each subteam leader trains and oversees their members, assigns and tracks tasks, ensures participation, and shares expertise to keep the team moving forward.
